A Visit to Glastonbury
I had an idea to visit Glastonbury – I’d never been before. Then an email arrived from a lovely friend saying she was holding ‘Introduction to Avalon’ workshops in Glastonbury monthly. So here we are.
I didn’t know what to expect. During the day our wonderful guide Emma said something that resonated with me. She said that thousands of years ago there had been ongoing singing / perpetual choirs located in Glastonbury. Their purpose was to maintain positivity and good health for people and the environment.
This reminded me of the revival of daily Vedic recitation that is taking place in India and in other parts of the worl
Ten years ago, in 2013, I went to the centre of India to listen to 1331 pandits reciting Vedic texts together. Listening to just one person reciting these texts is very special. To have 11 of them reciting together is another, more powerful level of effect. Then to have 11 times 11, i.e. 121 pandits together doing this is just another level of magnitude. But to have 11 times 11 times 11 – 1331 in total – that is truly extraordinary.
What could be more powerful? I heard that the goal was to have 3 groups of 1331 pandits reciting daily together. Apparently this actually happened on two occasions in the last 100 years. The first time the organiser was Maharishi’s teacher Guru Dev, the former Shankaracharya of Jyotir Math. The recitations took place in 1945 just before WWII ended. The second time it was Maharishi himself who organised the 3 groups of 1331 pandits, in 1989. This time the Berlin Wall fell. These are very powerful technologies!
Powerful technologies
One time when we were in the hall with all the pandits reciting the Vedic texts, I opened my eyes to have a look round at all of us visitors. Nearly everyone (including me) had tears running down their faces.
At the end of the recitation, I asked a friend how she had felt during the chanting. She said: ‘It was like having your nervous system taken apart completely and then put back together… properly.’
What makes this technology so powerful? There are 3 principal elements: first of all, there is the consciousness of the pandits themselves – they are all trained in the technology of consciousness known as Transcendental Meditation, which they practise every day; the second element is how the chanting is done, and it was the great Vedic scholar Maharishi Mahesh Yogi who trained pandits all over India in the most effective way of delivering the sounds; and the third element is of course the nature of the texts being recited.
Which is a whole enormous topic in itself! In brief: Maharishi explained that the Vedic sounds are the inner structure of the One / Source / Unified Field that ensures that manifestation takes place in an orderly and systematic manner. [Our equivalent: ‘In the beginning was the Word…’]
When the sounds of the Vedas are recited in a particular way, they resonate with the physiology and of course with the environment and enliven correct functioning within and without. Hence that experience of the nervous system being disassembled and then being put together properly!
Personally, I found the experience very powerful, in fact transformative. While I was there I found that I was ‘seeing’ the ‘impulses of creative intelligence’ (devas) whose names were being recited. This led to the realisation that we are always surrounded by loving beings, which has made life since then much more delightful!
Revival
These ancient / timeless technologies are being revived as consciousness rises – Marma Therapy being one of them. In fact, it was during that time that I first heard about Sukshma Marma Therapy.
After contacting the Marma training course organiser in the UK, I found out that the next course was starting the evening that my plane from Delhi landed in London, and the course location was half an hour from Heathrow. So I didn’t go home, just straight to the course from the airport.
And that was 10 years ago – and now I’m finishing my book about ‘Miraculous Marma Therapy – the First 10 Years’!
The Vedic civilisation would of course have been global so it was a lovely idea that this recitation might have taken place in Glastonbury also. That would have helped imbue the area with some of the atmosphere it certainly still holds.
Myths and legends abound in Glastonbury. But I felt greater clarity, happiness and energy there, so there’s definitely something going on. And we met so many colourful and wonderful people there, people who seemed bright and very ‘alive’, who looked you in the eye with friendliness.
