After the last AMA (Ask Me Anything) session for Members of the Marmas of the Moon, several people told me that it had changed the way they did their daily self-treatment. They realised what ‘light touch’ really means and found that their experiences improved as a result. People are always telling us to ‘try harder, work more, put more effort into it’. And there can be a tendency to apply this mindset to Marma treatments – they’re so wonderful when they’re done gently, so perhaps they would be even more wonderful if I just pushed a bit?! This can be counterproductive. It reminded me of a wonderful story that Maharishi, the great Vedic scholar and teacher, told about a student. Maharishi had taught Transcendental Meditation (TM) to this very intelligent man (a Law Professor) and, after about 10 days, asked him how he was getting on with his TM practice. The professor replied that everything went very well for the first week, and then the benefits stopped. He asked Maharishi if this was a technique that only worked for a week?! Maharishi asked him if he had added anything to the simple, natural TM technique he had been taught. The professor answered that, as the results in the first few days were so wonderful, and the process had been so effortless, he had the idea that, with a bit of effort, he could make it even more effective. So he tried harder. And then the benefits tailed off. Maharishi then reminded him of the effortlessness of the technique. Sukshma Marma treatment, including the Marmas of the Moon self-treatment, is also simple, natural and effortless. No effort, pressure, or trying is required. We just do the circles simply, effortlessly, and then rest a moment. As Maharishi said another time, also about TM: ‘No anticipation, no expectation of any results!’ This approach will yield the best outcomes. Please let me know if this is helpful – thank you!
