Single treatment – or a course of treatments?
Single treatment – or a course of treatments? Having just one treatment can be transformational, but sometimes a course of treatments is needed. Here are results from three clients who came for courses of treatments recently.
A few weeks ago I gave a talk on Marma Therapy to a local group and, at the end, someone asked privately if Marma Therapy treatments might be able to help her. She suffered from depression, was in constant pain, and was unable to do anything at home. She had tried many other avenues, but without any relief. I told her that other people with depression had found Marma treatments very helpful.
When she came for her first treatment, she brought her doctor’s prescription to show me all the pills she was taking. It was quite a list. One of the main issues was depression, but there were a number of other physical and mental health issues, too. She looked quite worried and down, and was dressed in dark colours. She said she wasn’t doing any chores at home.
‘This was so good, so good!’
At the end of the treatment she was smiling. She said: ‘It was so good!. I’ve had many, many treatments to try to get better, but this was so good, so good. I was resting very deeply.’
She came for her next treatment after two weeks. This time she was dressed in lighter colours (the first time she was in black), only mentioned one physical issue, and was keen to get onto the massage table to get on with the treatment.
The third time – again after two weeks – when she came for a treatment she was smiling, and seemed well and optimistic and cheerful. Again, she was keen to get on with the treatment and quickly got onto the treatment table. She didn’t mention any physical or mental ailments. Throughout the treatment she appeared to be resting deeply, and at the end, when she left, said she was off to the supermarket to do the shopping.
And when she booked her fourth treatment, she said it would be her last for now. It has been such a wonderful transformation, from a situation of worry, anxiety, inability to get on with anything, depression and physical ailments to cheerfulness, positivity and optimism.
‘Like walking on cotton’
The second person also presented with a range of conditions, including arthritis in his back, neck, hips and feet. The most troublesome of these was the arthritis in his feet, which made walking painful. He also had long-term prostate cancer, and was getting up 5-7 times a night to go to the loo.
He quickly went into a deep state of rest during the first part of the treatment, and remained there for the rest of the session. After the treatment he didn’t say much, just answered ‘Fine’ when I asked him how it had been, and also commented that he felt ‘rather spacey’.
A few days later he reported that the treatment had had a very positive effect on the arthritis in his feet and that walking now felt ‘like walking on cotton. Walking is easier and continues to be easier.’
‘I feel better physically, and longer-term feel happier as a result’
After a second treatment he wrote: ‘There were/are some notable shifts, different from the first treatment. My feet did not respond as profoundly as they did after the first treatment, but have in fact continued to feel better than before we started. Big improvement in my upper spine and neck, easing of a considerable amount of tension at the base of my skull and consequent easing off of what was starting to be one long chronic headache. Overall I feel better physically, and longer term feel happier as a result’.
When he came for his third treatment, he said that each time the Marma session ‘knocks me out for a couple of days. Then there are a couple of days feeling very lighthearted, optimistic’ He mentioned that he had also gone for another type of treatment, on a friend’s recommendation, and that had also resulted in his feeling knocked out, but without the sense of resurgence afterwards.
He added that ‘clearly the body is responding – certain things are improving… It’s like a fist that’s unclenching – but it’s happening in the whole body.’ He also said that he was now only getting up half as many times at night to go to the loo.
He also spoke of a feeling of ‘greater flow’ in life and that he had been ‘sitting at the computer and noticing that I felt happy – haven’t had that for many years.’
Most recently when he came for a Marma treatment, he spoke very positively about changes to problems caused by an inner ear issue, which I treated during the previous session: ‘The really astonishing thing – when I left last time, on my way to the station, I noticed that the inner ear thing has improved enormously. That was almost instantaneous. And it has lasted. It was seriously troubling, affected my balance, I was getting headaches. That has improved enormously.’
‘I feel very different from last November’
The third client has been coming for treatments on an occasional basis for over a year. When he first came, he presented with severe anxiety and depression, for which he was taking medication, poor sleep, a range of aches and pains, and a general feeling of declining physical capacity as the years passed.
I gave him Marma treatments, and also recommended a couple of other modalities, including the Marmas of the Moon and the Marma Therapy Sleep Protocol (also known as Nava Marma Mudra). He found the Sleep Protocol particularly helpful, and used it regularly.
During the first treatment some tension remained, but after the second one he said: ‘Wow! That was good. Felt very relaxed. Very different from the first treatment. Very nice, I was much more relaxed. My buttock suddenly relaxed!’
A few months after his first visit, he reported ‘I feel very different from last November – relaxed. Fatigue is coming out.’ And when I asked whether his anxiety was less, he said ‘Yes, much!’ and that he had reduced his anti-depressants – with his doctor’s consent – by 50%. And he just looks happier, healthier, more outward-looking. More ‘in the flow’.
